It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by a situation. As a qualified and experienced therapist, I can help you talk through the problem, identifying the reason for these feelings and helping you to make meaningful change so that you can move forward.

I offer a range of therapeutic methods which you can explore in further pages. This page is intended to explain a little bit about what therapy is and how we might work together, to help you decide if it might be helpful to you.

What is therapy?

Counselling and Therapy provide the opportunity to explore issues that are troubling you in a supportive environment. It is usually short term with a brief number of sessions and an aim in mind. A major part of the work involves you carrying out tasks to enable you to become your own therapist.

I firmly believe that offering you a compassionate, non-judgmental and safe environment gives you an opportunity to trust your own experience and feelings. This provides a solid framework from which healing some of the deepest wounds experienced in life can begin to take place, as you gradually become more robust and able to access your own resources.

Who is therapy for?

In short, it is for everyone who is open to exploring their choices. We all have times in our lives when things aren’t going well. It may be a single event, like a relationship break-up, or bereavement. It might be something unresolved from our past. It might just be a feeling of not living life to the full. Often it becomes clear that we are ‘stuck’ and cannot move forward alone.

How can therapy help? Therapy provides an opportunity to talk in confidence about these or any other concerns you may have. The emphasis is on helping you to find your own answers within a safe and accepting environment.

Therapy sessions

I offer short term Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) with the philosophical basis of Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT). This is a mode of therapy in which to explore a specific area of your life, and the highlight of is that it quickly moves to the core issues you experience.

I also offer Eye Movement Integration Therapy, which works with mild to severe trauma, and Heartmath, which offers techniques to regulate and manage breathing and heart rate.

My approach to therapy is integrative, which simply means that I draw upon this and other models of therapy when working with clients, aiming to work with your specific needs. This allows us to work together in a way that suits you and your needs, rather than attempting to fit your problem into a predefined box.

Therapy is held in a confidential space once a week, for around eight sessions. There may be an opportunity to extend this to twelve sessions, if this would be useful for you. Sessions can be, but don’t have to be, at the same time each week. Therapy sessions take place at my private practice and I aim to provide a safe and accepting environment in which to work together.

If you wish to work as a couple, I spend time with each of you individually for a single session initially. Then we continue for around six sessions with both of you together as a team.

Initial session

When you come for an initial appointment, you have a chance to experience what it would be like to work with me and we can decide together if our work could be useful. It is an opportunity to get a feel for how therapy works, to ask any questions you may have, and to find out if we are comfortable working together. If you decide you want to continue after the initial session, we will make an agreement about commitment to the length of therapy and cost. The first session takes 30-50 minutes.
