Buteyko is a form of breathing technique that uses particular breathing exercises primarily as a treatment for asthma and other respiratory conditions, but also for stress and life management.
The therapy takes its name from Ukrainian doctor Konstantin Pavlovich Buteyko, who first formulated its principles during the 1950s.
Buteyko is based on the assumption that how we feel, as well as numerous medical conditions, including asthma, are caused or exacerbated by chronically increased respiratory rate or hyperventilation.
